Major attractions of Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer Fort
The pride of Jaisalmer, this fort is perched on the Trikuta Hill. The amazing fact about this fort is that about one third of the city’s population resides within the fort. Wonderful hotels are also there in the fort where tourists can enjoy a stay. The fort complex houses five palaces namely Sarvottam Vilas, Akhai Vilas, Gaj Mahal, Rang Mahal and Moti Mahal. These royal structures boast of exquisite carvings, latticework and murals.

The Jain Temples
The beautiful Jain Temples are known for their carvings. Their architecture is done in the style of the famous Delwara Jain Temple in Mount Abu.

Salim Singh Ki Haveli
More than 300 year old, this haveli is known for its fantastic carvings and wooden work. Some portion of the haveli is still inhabited by the royal family. In the past the haveli also had two additional wooden stories which made it looked like a palace. Later these two stories were removed by the Maharaja.

Patwon ki Haveli
This architectural marvel was built between 100-1860. It is intricately carved and is divided into six apartments. It is one of the largest and grandest havelis in Jailsalmer.

Nathmal ki Haveli
Built in the 19th century by the two architect brothers, this haveli is a perfect example of symmetry. It has two identical portions separated by a common façade. Its walls are beautifully adorned with miniature paintings.

Gadsisar Lake
It is an artificial lake built in the 14th century. There are small temples and shrines surrounding it.

Shopping in Jaisalmer
The markets of Jaisalmer offer a variety of shopping items like embodied fabrics, silver jewellery, rugs, Rajasthani mirror work, antiques, hand woven blankets, carved wooden boxes, puppets, bangles, tie and dye fabric, camel leather products etc.

The nearest airport is at Jodhpur (285 km). Jaisalmer is well connected to the other cities of Rajasthan by rail and road.
