Major attractions of Kumarakom
Vembanad Lake
Besides being the largest lake in Kerala, it is also the longest lake in India covering a vast network of waterbody from Kochi to Alleppey. Moreover, the backwaters of Vembanad Lake is home to varieties of migratory birds along with numerous marine species.
Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary
Sprawling across 14 acres, it is a birdwatchers’ paradise where migratory birds from far and wide can be viewed along with the domestic ones. Starting from wild duck, cuckoo, waterfowls, wood beetle, native kingfishers, flycatchers, larks, and parrots to Siberian stork, teals, herons, darters, and egrets, it is a fascinating place to for bird-watching as well as cruising.
Aruvikkuzhi Waterfall
It is a magnificent waterfall cascading from a height of over 100 feet amidst a bed of green rubber plantation. It is a famous picnic spot along with perfect photographic locations as one can view the waterfall gushing in five steps. At the top of this waterfall, the St. Mary’s Church is located. Also, the pristine island of Pathiramanal (sands of midnight) is just a few miles away by the boat from here.
Kumarakoram Beach
Talking about other spectacular locations, Kumarakoram Beach offers a peaceful coastal line with several sporting activities like parasailing and surfing.
